This is a straight forward process that is documented in several places, but there’s more than one way and a couple hurdles. The official word when reinstalling or upgrading a functioning Security Server in View 5.3 is to start in the View Administrator web GUI.
Click View Configuration, Servers. In the Security Servers tab, click the Security Server that’s affected, click the “More Commands” button and choose “Prepare for Upgrade and Re-installation”, which should remove the binding IP-SEC rules on the Connection Server.
If the button is greyed out, then the Security Server should be prepared. Manually check to make sure the firewall rules are gone: Go to the bound Connection Server’s Windows interface. Open the server’s firewall advanced settings and look for IP-SEC rules in the Connection Security Rules section. If you see rules pertaining to the Security Server’s IP address, they will need to be removed before re-installing or upgrading.
The process will also fail if the Security Server’s Windows firewall is turned off.
1. 1. Run the “Prepare For Upgrade and Reinstallation” script from the View Administrator web GUI
2. 2. Verify the IP-SEC rules are gone from Connection Server bound to the affected Security Server
3. 3. Run the installation/Upgrade on the Security Server
4. After the installation, verify the Security Server’s View based rules are enabled:
